Main Seal Update

As promised: a quick update to let you know that the front main seal is out of my SA. A large bearing separator and a bit of patience. The pulley hub does not seem to have a groove that corresponds to the old seal, but does appear slightly flared at the end that is closest to the motor. I have a replacement seal and a bunch of gaskets on the way and will check it against the new seal for fit. The old seal was toast.

Thanks again, this has always been a great sight. i feel a bit guilty to swoop in and grab info but the farm has grown a bit and I just don't find the time to post as much as I used to.

As long as there isnt a grouve where the new seal sets but you say flared so there must be some sear did you put a straight edge over the area where the seal seats. Ive been using s seal there thats for another use its wider and i have had good luck with it doing its job.

yeah, I miced it and it is about 5/1000s off. I have a speedy sleave on the way because I just cannot tell if I can fudge the location of the seal enough to get onto a good surface. The disassembly necessary to replace the seal is a motivator to get it right the first time.
