Polarity on H tractor

I just bought an H the other day,and it dose not appear to be charging.I noticed that it has a negitive ground at this time,and it has a generator.Can this be right ,how should the geni be wired.HOW SHOULD i START TO TROUBLE SHOOT.

If its 6 volts it was probably Pos ground when new although the genny can still charge at EITHER polarity once Polarized while ammeter leads needs reversed or else it would read backwards.

Once you get it wired right and decide on your polarity (Id stay at Pos if its 6 volts) be sure to Polarize the genny BEFORE starting.

First I'd start with a checking if this "H" is original. All "H" models came 6 volt and positive ground. What do you have can be anything else.
Why anyone wants to or has to make these tractors 12 volt is beyond me. They are puurrrrrfect with 6 volt systems and the proper 2 ga. cables. I don't know if your "H" is a 6 or 12 volt as you have left out sooooooo much important info as to making any guess to why your tractor is not charging. In your system you have many parts....but in a quick fix on a tractor you have NO knowlege of it's past or present state I'd do this first. If your tractor has been stored without a battery for a while, or generally has charging problems, you may need to repolarize your generator. You need to do this anytime the generator or regulator has been removed or the leads disconnected. This is a really easy procedure, and requires only a short piece of wire. First, make sure that the positive terminal of the battery is grounded. Then, momentarily connect a jumper between the "BAT" terminal of the regulator and the "A" terminal of the generator. Hold the wire on one end and just brush it across the other - you should see a spark. If you do see a spark, you're done. It is that easy. Remember, don't connect the wire, just momentarily touch it. And make sure you have the right terminals at both ends (they should be labeled). If you do the wrong ones you're likely to fry your regulator.
