Farmall 240 Battery Cover.

I am working on a restoration for a Farmall 240 row crop tractor and am going to have to build a battery cover part no. 370375R11 for those who would like to check their NOS parts. From everything I can find they only had a cover which was held down with a couple long bolts to some brackets beneath the battery. I have never seen a 240 cover and the picture in the parts catalog is certainly not suitable to fabricate one. Would anyone have some photos and dimensions they could provide to assist in my attempt to fabricate one? They seem to be impossible to find as the only other application for the same cover was on the International 240 Utility model. Thanks to anyone who can assist in any way in this endeavor, Hal.

From looking at the 240 part catalog and discussions with other folks it is definitly a unique cover. The only other application I can find for it is on an International 240 Utility tractor of which about 3 times as many were produced. Take a look at the CaseIH on-line part catalog and you will see it shown for the 240 models in the electrical section. Thanks for your response and I really wish it was as you thought, Hal.

Hal,
Looks like two issues to straighten out and none of them will help.
1. The 200-230 & 240 are in the same parts book. I was looking at the 200-230 listing instead of the 240 listing. My mistake.
2. The base number of the number you gave, 370375 shows up as 370375R91 which is the Ignition switch number. I think the number you meant to list was 370735R11.
And now we are back where we started.
Sorry Hal. It's not as simple as I thought.

Thanks for the clarification and you are correct the part no. s/b 370735R11 as you noted. Thanks for catching my typo. The reason I'm getting the Farmall 240 is because there weren't all that many produced. I've looked back through the show books for the RPRU's for the past 10 years and there was only two at the same show one time. It was one or none for most years. It will be a little tough finding any needed parts but I like going to the RPRU with a shopping list as it forces you to look at everything on those trailer loads of parts. Thanks again, Hal.

The 240 series battery cover is a rare bird. Only ever seen a couple. One is NOS. It is basically 1/2 of a 340 Gas battery cover turned sideways. I know that sounds odd, but that is exactly what IH did for this series. Find an original 340 gas battery cover, cut in into 2 halves and reweld the loops onto opposite sides. Good luck with the fab work. NO other tractor has this same battery lid. No box, just tray, j-bolts and a lid (half lid to be exact).

Thanks Jeff for the connection to the 340 tractor. Haven't explored that route but know that won't be an easy find either. I know if I could find a 240 cover in some type of original shape I could make one on a CNC mill from a block of material - or at least I think I could. A NOS one certainly would be an incredible fine I'm sure. Thanks again, Hal.

I am also looking for a battery cover for a 1959 IH 240 Utility, I would like to know what you came up with. Ron

If you have an extra pair of side panels for the hood, I'd be interested.
