Yesterday, I was at the local junkyard where I live getting rid of some junk steel when a guy pulls up next to me with a rollbed with a Farmall Super C and Factory IH manure loader for a Super C on it. All complete with wheel weights, no rust, and I tried to buy it, but he already sold it. I saw when they picked it up and crushed it.....

I don't know what you offered them . But if it was more than scrap price you think they would have took it and wouldn't have had to touch it.

I hate seeing that also, but the price for scrap makes it worth it. I recently did a property cleanup from a bank owned property. There were 16 tractors on site. Banker told me to take to scrap. Told him that I would take the tractors for payment instead. Most of them were complete non runners that have sat for 10 plus years. Advertised on this site and did sell 12 of them the last couple of months. Decided to take a 1950 JD B with a model 35 loader to the monthly consignment auction on Tuesday a 100 miles away. Auction was yesterday, only got $400.00 for it minus the 15% fee. Called the scrap yard this morning what scrap metal is going for. Was quoted $225.00 per ton. Scrap yard 22 miles away. I would have done better taking that tractor to scrap versus auction (fuel cost/fees). Hate to do it, but I will be taking the other tractors to scrap next week if I don't sell them soon. P.S. I couldn't get any more than $1500.00 for my 1940 M Puller, so I bidded and got it back. I have over $12,000.00 invested on it.

Most junk yards are only licensed to buy and scrap, they don't have a license to resale,Thank our government and state laws

Our local scrap year will resell to anyone with the money, Everytime I go there I see people picking it over. They weigh it and pay a little more per lb then the scrap yard got
I have picked up metal there.pretty cheap at times

Our local scrapyard will sell you anything. They will even hold things for you if you tell them what your looking for. If you take a load in and find some little things you want, (never tried on larger things) they will just trade you even up.

It all comes down to who is the greediest for the all mighty dollar. Screw your neighbor to make a buck! Oh, I hate to scrap it but it is worth a few more dollars...........for what. If you don't think you did anything wrong don't apologize, but I pity some of you who will rot in hell..... all for 25 cents more you put in your pocket! In the end, was it really worth it? Greed is what ruined America, and has finally gotten the Farmer!!!!!!

Jimmy. most states have an exception for occasional sales that lets things like that work out the way they are supposed to work out.

Give it a freaking rest already.

Anyone that isn't running their farm for a profit quit farming a long long long time ago.

That or they might be these guys:

Rot in hell? Really? I doubt the Lord is going to consign anyone to the infernal reaches for selling scrap iron.

It's a shame, but you cannot deny a man his right to free enterprise.

They'll NEVER be able to scrap them all!

Or at least to break even, some of us love the work, five generations, by the way the Beekman Mansion is a mile and a half north of me. The Farmer that runs the farming operation is farming! Sell the equipment for parts first!

Our local scrap yard used to have a sell every year, and sell peices that would bring more than scrap. They were made to stop.I was at a sell and there was a 3 bottom disc plow thatwould have looked good behind my F30,and I missed it,the scrap dealer got it for a minimal bid.I offered him 100$ more than his bid and he wouldnt talk to me

So you live in a junk yard?

Our local crusher will not sell to anyone either. Once it crosses the gate, it is usually history. But I will not be witnessing anything getting crushed, as I refuse to go there. I had heard that they wouldn't sell and I personally called to verify it. I have actually never set foot there and never plan to. I rather sell cheaper if I have to, to the salvage yard. At least they will sell the parts off of them. Plus why should I give the crusher any business. They should be boycotted.

There is a scrap yard in western, Pa that sells equipmnt as scrap. I bought a Case 310 crawler loader/backhoe for $.03 more than he was paying for #1 unprepared. He has a JD 4400 combine that a guy drove in. It is waiting to be cut up. The thing is decent and complete. You can buy anything at $.30 above what he paid. I stop in once a week to se what is there.

You only have to look at the value many on this forum put on complete, rough and not running tractors and compare it to scrap value to see why many take them to scrap yard.

That's how the yard is in Elkhorn, WI. I don't know about South Beloit or Janesville. I have never tried it there.

I would go buy that 4400 if it was a gasser and here in WI. We need combine demo machines :)
