IH 656 front end

I have an IH 656, 1967 I believe. I am planning to restore and was considering replacing my perfectly good front end because it is aftermarket. I have been told that not having an IH front end would be a big negative. At the same time I have been told the IH front ends were so wimpy and didn"t hold up. Thus causing there to be so many units with aftermaket front ends.
Any Insights to this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

The aftermarket wide fronts, such as the Schwartz, were installed to replace the existing NARROW front end, and I suppose in rare instances to replace a DAMAGED IH wide front, but whoever told you that the IH built wide front is weak was full of horse feathers, and to say that an aftermarket wide front is detrimental to the value of the tractor is also a bunch of horse hockey.

There is the possibility that the wide front on your tractor is the HEAVY-DUTY Schwartz, in which case it IS better and stronger than an original IH wide front.

I second what rustyfarmall said. Do your restore work and don't give it a second thought. It'll look great when finished and serve you well.

The only problem with the factory wide front on my 656 was weak spindles with the loader. I replaced them with the heavier 806 spindles and never had another problem, and I lifted heavily with the loader.

I second Eric's suggestion. A Farmall 656 looks much better with a dual tricycle front and is also much more manuverable with the tricycle front.
