Can you clean the injector holes in the head on an MD?

I have the injectors out to get the head checked. (It passed with flying colors. No valve work needed. No cracks and took .009 to clean it up)
Two of the injectors came out very easy and two were terrible to get out. I just had them out last year so I didn't expect problems. Last year I didn't clean the holes much at all. Just vaccumed the loose stuff out and that is about it. Can I do anything to clean these up to preven this type of problem? Rotary hone? Steel wool? Scotch Bright? There must be something to take the stuff off safely.

Most likely you have precombustion chamber gaskets leaking. Exhaust leaking past the gaskets will deposit carbon around the precup and injector.

You are saying it is the gasket between the injector and the precup? (like a giant skinny steel washer) I can certainly agree with that. The gaskets really suck. I expected something a little more substational than that. The one had quite a bit of carbon for sure. I compared the seals the injector company gave me with the ones at IH and there isn't a bit of difference. Should you double them up? Should they look compressed? Any other tricks?

I antisiezed the injectors when I put them in. Is that right or wrong?

most important to have new gskets and the dust seal o ring at top .as owen says the used ones cause exhaust to leak past and carbon up. hard to get used ones to seal. once tractor is running can check for leaks with some soap and water in a spray bottle. i use some emery cloth and air to clean them up.even when you remove the gskts can see if the were sealing. dont double them up either.should not need antiseize in the bore as thats the o rings job. good idea to use it on the bolt threads though.

Don't worry, I used new ones last time and I already have them for the reinstall. I bought new orings as well.
Is there more to installing them then just setting them in the bottom of the hole?

Plumbing and Hardware stores have pipe shining brushes that are for cleaning and prepping copper pipe for soldering. These wooden handled tools look like a bottle brush, and are available in 1/2" and 3/4" diameters (they are larger than these dimensions, they fit in the female fitting) Choose the one that is a best fit. What works great to clean them is a christmas tree style hone like used on engine cylinders.(brush research actually) We had several at the dealership for different jobs like brass injector sleeves, brake cyl bores. Next thing that does work is a little Jury rigged hone using a dowell with a slot cut across it and several flaps of emery cloth. Just be sure to get down into that bottom area where gasketk seats or all is in vain. Can be difficult to get that bottom gasket out also.

Christmas tree = balls on wire type thing? Brush Research has A TON of brushes. I hate to get the wrong one.
I might try some easy going sandpaper. I have done that trick before.

(quoted from post at 20:09:38 03/22/11) Wire brush see below. Jim

I'm trying to clean the big hole, not the little one the actual injector goes in. I would guess it is 1.5" dia??? I know the brushes referred to. I'll see if Menard's has some that big.

Where did you buy from? And what prices?

I personally like to antiseize things like this.

They came from DIS in Madison, WI with the rebuilt injectors. Not sure how much they cost. I think all four injectors was $800. He showed me the IH ones and we held them up against mine and they were the same. Doesn't seem like genuine IH parts would solve the problem.
