It cant look good and lock up. Turn the ring gear over and look real good theres probably some bad teeth also your bendix mite have rounded teeth also hows the brushes mite need the starter serviced brushes, bearing and bushing one by one you will find where something is bad.

Might be just in need of a good cleaning. Don't use any oil on the starter drive or shaft. At most use graphite.

Pretty common problem. Cause is worn starter drive (pinion) and flywheel ring gears.

Sometimes replacing the starter drive solves the problem. However sometimes new drive will actually make the problem WORSE.

Only solution then is to replace the flywheel ring gear. Unfortunately the tractor must be split to replace the ring gear. The good news is a new gear is relatively cheap ($35 or so). And once the tractor has been split R and R'ing the ring gear is straightforward.

Just put the tractor in high gear and rock it. No need to loosen the starter. It works on H's and M's so I would assume it works on little guys.

pull out the starter, look in the flywheel housing for mouse nests, found one on mine, and on a buddies tractor. ez fix, just clean out all the mouse nest
