H will not start

I have a H that is set up for pulling. It has a M carb. On it. The
tractor has been running fine. The other day I put a different
governor on it. After I got it all back together it started up and
idled fine when I went to give it some throttle it basically
died. now when I try to start it the motor will crank away but
as soon as you try to choke it the motor acts like it is vapor
locking. Any help would be appreciated.

Look first at the little tab and slot system on the carb to governor link. Next look at the fuel flow. Then at spark. Jim

Here are the things that I have checked.
It is firing
It is getting gas
Changed plugs
I can't see anything binding up in the governor
The carb and the governor tube are attached correctly
I took the carb apart and seen nothing wrong with it
I pulled the distributor out and checked to make sure nothing was broke
And I re-timed it

Is there fuel in the bowl. Is there fuel in the cylinders. Put a squirt of gasoline in each cylinder and then the plugs. Start it if it starts and dies it is fuel. Jim

on a lark, check your compression. just for grins. broken cam shaft will behave like that........probably not your issue, but worth a check.

Did you put a modified governor or a 4 weight M&W in? If the problems started with the governor i would try swapping the old one back in and see if the problem fixes itself.

I put a factory one on it with a stronger spring. The governor that was on it had a bunch of slop in the weights and the one I put on it is all tight.

If reinstalling the old governor doesn't help you should pull No1 sparkplug near the radiator and bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Then look at your rotor to see where its pointing. It should be at the No1 plug tower. Make sure your plug wires are in the correct firing order on your cap. Hal

2-1
4-3 The rotor turns CW.

(quoted from post at 15:48:54 03/21/11) I have a H that is set up for pulling. It has a M carb. On it. The

The engine will start and run even without the governor. The governor serves only to control the rpms of the engine. Without the governor, the rpms will go wild, so I do not recommend running it without a governor, but that is NOT why the tractor will not start.

I reinstalled the old governor
I checked the compression
Plug wires are on right
With #1 cylinder TDC on compression roter is to #1 plug wire on the cap
I put a carb off of another running tractor on it
It is firing
It is getting gas to the plugs
I checked the valve train and push rods

When I try to start it the engine turns over good when I try to choke it or spray starting fluid in it the engine still acts like it is wanting to vapor lock, its like it just siezes up. I can let it set for just a bit and it will whirl over fine again. Every once in a while it will hit like it wants to start but thats it. To me it acts like it is flooded, I let it set over night with the plugs out, put new ones in and got the same thing. I am out of ideas on what to do.
