424 lift problems

My dad has a 424 International that we use to bushhog road ditches, post hole auge, etc. Don't use it very often but you can run it for a long time on a tank of fuel, now days that means alot. We have trouble with the lift jumping up when using or carrying a bale of hay on three point lift. Had it woked on but noone could fix it where it was right.Has a new hydraulic pump. Power steering also works but sometimes better than others. Any help is appreciated,Thanks.

Hi Travis, make sure the draft control lever is all the way forward. Check the slop in assembly that the top link connects to on the hydraulic housing. If there is to much slop the top link assembly will activate the draft control which is the shiny shaft sticking out of the hydraulic housing. The slop can be adjusted by a screw driver thru the hole in the top of hydraulic housing and loosening the jamb nut on top of square block.

Hey Travis, I have a 2424 which is the industrial version of the 424 and it was a basket case when I got it.
Anyway after getting it running and changing all the fluids and filters it still would not raise and lower the 3pt smoothly and the power steering squealed. I pulled out the small filter under the seat and cleaned it, it was better but still not right, so I pulled the filter out and it worked like it should.
Put a brand new 2nd filter in and so far so good. I would start there.

Thanks guys for the info.We will check both things mentioned. Ya'll wouldn't happen to know where we can get set up for spin on oil filter. That cartridge type filter is a pain to deal with.Once again thanks.
