I posted Friday about a overspeed mishap. Well its broke inside the engine. What kind of cost am I facing on a rebuild (full engine kit) and do I need to pull engine to complete? Thank you in advance for any advice.

Pete

Pulling the oil pan will tell you the story.
If a rod broke and destroyed internal surfaces, oil pump and or the block itself, it will require substantial effort to make it right. The most common problems that make internal noise are broken rods, spun bearings and broken crankshafts. All are visible with the pan off. If the block and cam are OK, and the crank was untouched, A engine Kit will be all that is needed. If there is damage to the journals and block it might just be best to get a different engine and rebuild that. Super H or 300-350 would be nice!
If the crank is measured and found to be good, and the block is OK it might be an in frame proposition. Otherwise the engine will need to be removed. Jim
