Super something

Thanks for all your help as we have tried to figure out what tractor I have.
1951 super A with full hydraulics, 1946 farmall A engine.

Question: this engine ran off kerosene for years. I believe I have firecrater pistons although I don't see that the "A" came with that.
Does any one know about pistons on 1946, does kerosene affect which kit I buy?

Fun fun.

Running a distillate engine on gasoline is normal practice. The Original engine had flat top pistons and a larger combustion chamber for lower compression. Putting higher compression pistons will dramatically improve power. (I do not think you would be sorry putting as high a dome piston in it that you can find) Jim

You dont have a 46 engine in a 51 SA cause the 46 doesent have the hy pump./ The heads are the same the pistons have a dished in place on the top for lower compression. I hvae torn down some distillate engines and have some pistons ifn ya want some. Combustion chambers are the same as the gas ones in the heads. Sounds like you need to do some real good reasearch on what you have.

Gene, I to was shocked but I do apparently have a 46 motor on a 51 super chassis. Amazing been in family for 50 years and we had no idea. I wish I really knew how all this came about. Someone took this farmall A block brazed in the mount for the hydraulic pump, meshed in with the gears and had we not stripped all paint off you would never notice it.

I thought it probably started with flat top pistons. It now has what I call firecrater pistons, 3 1/8 bore. Which has more power, dome, stepped head, firecrater?

The piston that displaces the most combustion chamber volume. Looking at the portion of the piston that extends above the block, the one with the most volume wins. Jim
