Super C C-123 engine.

I'm going to build a Super C out of 2 parts tractors.
I have 2 motors, both need to be rebuilt, one out of a 51 and the other a 53. Part #'s on the blocks and heads are the same with the exception of the "R1 & R2" designation.

Whats the difference between the 2 and is one better than the other?

The R number is a "revision" number. It may mean something you can't even see, such as a different metal callout, or they deleted a tab no longer used. I wouldn't worry about it, choose the block without any cracks behind the carb.
