hi i am looking at purchasing biodiesel and was wondering what it will do to my 706 farmall diesel, in other words will it kill it or should there be no trouble

Biodiesel can mean lots of things, cooking grease, home-made bio-diesel, really GOOD stuff from a fuel supplier such as Cenex, or a few other things. WHAT, exactly, are you intending to purchase?

Keep in mind that bio-diesel has about a 6 month shelf life. There is a certain kind of bacteria that loves that stuff. You might need to change your fuel filters a little more often. They will filter out the bacteria but once it starts growing you will have a black slimy mess inside the filters. If you use your tractor a lot or if you buy the fuel in small quantities you should be ok. It was enlightnening when we had a fuel expert come talk to our tractor club about bio-diesel.

Buy extra fuel filters. Biodiesel will clean up your entire system including the tank and lines. You will need extra filters. If you have a storage tank, it will clean it out also. Other that that you should be fine.

Bacteria will not effect biodiesel any more that regular diesel.

sunpower biodiesel made locally in cumberland wisconsin they have several grades , i was wondering if they would eat up the seals in my fuel system

You couldn't give me that crap they call bio diesel.

I had a pump redone, and although it has been 6 years now, I doubt that the tractor had 100 hours on the pump. I bought some bio-fuel not really knowing about the short shelf life, and as I don't farm any longer it don't get ran too much, so it hardly uses any fuel.. It sat for about a year with a half tank..

I have spent MANY hours cleaning the garbage from the bottom of fuel tank, cleaning lines, changing filters.. and just got the injectors and pump back, with a bill of nearly $800.. The parts didn't cost but $50.. So how many hours did it take them to clean up that pump?? Nearly 10 hours it seems..

That's my experience with the stuff.. You might have better luck.

Brad

Most experts seem to feel good, commercially-made biodiesel has more lubricity than dino stuff, which is BETTER for the injection pump.

Cooking grease or home-made biodiesel is ANOTHER matter.
