Hi I just bought a 1938 f20 over the weekend the serial #s on the motor and frame both match (no tag on the tool box was taken off when painted and never put back on )and there is a "N" after the number denoting a narrow tread but the rear end looks to be that of a standard width. My Question is it possible that it went out of the factory with a wide rear end (maybe a left over)it also has a pump in between the trans and fear end, has anyone seen this before?Oh and the owner stated it was all original also.
Thank You, Tom

Tom, What kind of rear wheels do you have? F-20
NT with 36" round spoke turened in about 74"
If it is a standard rear you are around 86" turned in. Steel unless is is the rare off set
would be around 95". What does yor measure?

There is a difference in the draw bars as well. The Narrow Tread drawbar is a basic u shape with smooth radius at each corner. The wide draw bar hooks back in at each corner. Hope that makes sense.

I checked today and it is in fact around 85"with the cast wheels turned in.I would like to find a narrow rear for it someday ,im trying to upload a pic.Tom

Guys the F series had there own belly pumps, they are not M pumps. For instance the belly pump for the F30 was called "CYLINDER-TYPE HYDRAULIC POWER LIFT" by IH, carried part #15046E and was in the parts book before the M even existed.

that pump is the one late F-30 cane tractors were equipped with from the factory. The F-20 part book I have shows no such animal. I read somewhere, can't find it now, that this was a kit offered in the 40's by IH to retrofit the letter series belly pump to the F-20 to make more useful as wartime demands limited tractor production and availability.I could be wrong. If I can find that source i will post it.We have 2 F-20s equipped with Lift All pumps.
