What should the compression readings for the engine be? The readings I got seem to low. #1-10psi #2-10psi #3-20psi #4-10psi

should be better than 90 psi on up over 120 psi. be sure you run the compression test with wide open throttle, all plugs removed. run the test dry, then squirt 4 or 5 pumps of engine oil in each cylinder, roll the motor over a few times to spread it around, then re-run the test.

Does it run?? If it runs I'll bet your numbers are not what it really has. As Glen says it should have 90psi plus. So fill in the blanks and tell us the whole story so we can help you help your self

Is the Schrader valve core from a tire? Compression testers need a special valve core with a very weak spring. Otherwise your readings will ber very low.
The throttle must be wide open and all spark plugs removed. Also make sure the ignition switch is off.

No it was home made with an old spark plug end with a nipple welded to it,with a pressure gauge.I have to watch the gauge while cranking the engine over. The pressure releases when the exhaust valve opens.
