My steering is leaking from the hydraulic valve up behind the engine. Pretty sure its the "hand pump" as IH calls it. I'll do more investigating later this week - it only leaks sometimes - but when it doe it leaks 1-2 qts pretty quick. How hard are these to rebuild. or should I just replace - sounds like their about $900. Thanks.

Easy, but some things you want to know. They usually leak most when cold. Mark end cap to orient reassembly. Take the bolts out and take cap off watching where the little center button inside is in relation to the pin and hole in button. Carefully remove the outer shell while leaving the rest of the pump together. The seal looks like a large rubber radiator hose. There are at least two different ones so you need correct one. New one must be like 3/16th or more longer than the outer shell so it can compress and seal. Carefully torque the bolts down,(I THINK TORQUE IS MARKED ON COVER )to about 17 ft lbs and make sure unit turns same as it did before you took it apart. Might want to replace input shaft seal also and directions come with seal pkg. Just don't hammer that pin out without supporting the shaft, small press works best.

You may want to take the hand pump in to the IH dealer for rebuild. I took the pump from my 966 in. Picked it up the next day for about $110. Wayne
