head has been redone.new points, cap ,roto, plugs and wires. checked compression @ 115 lbs.on all cyls.had a friend rebuild the carb.starts great runs at idle puffs a little black smoke when throtteled up runs good at top end no load.
put it under load it pops and sputters like its running out of fuel.adjusted carb per manual put a new line, bowl and cleaned the tank, checked valves @ .017 operating temp. still the same. Im out of ideas
anyone have an idea whats wrong.

Does the centrifugal advance work? Use a timing light, or twist a little on the rotor and see if it springs back. Bad advance will do it! Jim

Sounds like it is too lean -- open the main jet screw 1/2 turn at a time, see if that will smooth it out.

there is a small square head plug near the bottom of the carb bowl, near the main load adjustment. use a 1/4 inch wrench and unscrew it all the way out. have a good size container to catch the fuel. you should get a steady pencil size stream (about that size) running out of the bowl with the fuel all the way on. if not, you may have issues with the float. could be set too high and running out of fuel, or hitting the side of the carb bowl. its a pretty tight fit in there on the h.

is the tractor in time? sounds like a problem i had with a f12,no power at all.i got the timing just right and it now will pull a 2/14 plow all day long.also check your head to see if manifold is leaking and your head nuts are tight.the others have good info for you too.

Open the main jet adjusting screw as CNKS suggested. Even old garden tractors have that feature. That will enrich your fuel mixture. Hal
