IH 656 repower

Can i repower my 656 with a IH360 that i got with out making any adaptions to the bellhouseing? Or will it not bolt up to the tranny?

(quoted from post at 18:18:17 03/12/11) will the tranny take the power ok?
Use the small implements but work faster rule. It's going to be kind of like those 80 hp kubotas where max hp PTO work is fine but heavy tillage will wreck stuff. Dyno it and set it at a 706-756 advertised rating. It should pull a 12 ft hydroswing discbine in 4th DD when you're done. Many of IH's competitors used bigger engines detuned in lighter tractors in the late 60s through the 80s, and those are still going strong.
That said, our 656 gas has been used hard its whole life. It was the primary tractor for tillage and on the chopper for its first 10 years. It was still a critical tractor for field work even after the 1256 came along. maybe it got a few years off, but for the last 10 years its been pulling the 10 ft discbine (but not a hydro swing) and a couple of us big kids like to find 3rd DD which my dad doesn't like to hear. About every 15 years we have an issue with the needle bearings of the pto driven shaft, which also drives the hydraulic pump. We were close to needing a new clutch housing but there is a repair collar in there which has been the S.O.P. the first 2 times. So heavy pto isn't so good for 'em either, but 15 years on a tractor is considered useful life...

It should handle it ok if set at a reasonable level. Any parts that were ready to fail will fail no matter what engine is pushing them near stock horsepower.
