Allis Chalmers D17

Can't find out year of this tractor. It is a 4 cyl gas, no ps,the only numbers we found on it are D171043 on left front housing. Since the numbers for SN are supposed to start at 4300 in 1958, we don't know what we have. Any suggestions?

According to the Rust Book, page 204, D17 serial numbers were 1001-4299 for the 1957 year and 4300- 16499 for the 1958 year. Hope this helps.

Yes, it needs a lot of work, but it runs great. I"m looking for fenders for it as they weren"t on it when we got it. It needs a seal in front end, but we use it every week to do stalls with. It"s been worth the $1200. we paid for it. Want to restore it sometime soon.

(quoted from post at 14:06:53 03/11/11) Post this on the ALLIS site and you will get a better answer.

What's wrong with the answer he got? After all it is the correct one.

One could assume that it is a Stage I since it is the very first year of production.
This info is right off the yt site to your left in serial numbers.

I'm sure a quick Google search could tell you when the Stage breaks were. IIRC there were three for the D-17.
