Hardest question, value of a tractor

Went by an auction yard today that was getting ready for a Sat auction. I saw a rusty "M" and went over to check it out. Sheet metal was good, battery box gone, one hydralic remote to foot platform. They claimed it ran but had been sitting for a couple of years in a barn. Tires were ok. Overall, it looked good. Then, I noticed it had a M & W hand clutch and thought the clutch might be worth more than the whole tractor. I know it's a tough question, but can anyone throw any $$ numbers out. Thanks, Jon

John, I was at a sale this past Saturday and it had 3 M's. One had fenders and really good tires and didn't sell for 1900.00. The owner had a sale for 2000.00 and was trying for more at the aution. One sold for 800.00 with oil all over it and dented sheet metal and the other was pretty nice sheet metal with not so good tires and it sold for 1100.00 or 1200.00. It wasn't a bad looking M. Sale was in Pa.

Jon,
I purchased a 52 super m last summer with live pump and char lynn power steering. Sheet metal was good but not good paint. Tires were straight bar with alot of weather cracks about 40%. Price was $2025 in central Ia.

The only thing unique about this tractor is the M & W clutch and that was what I was looking for info about. Thanks, Jon

I'll throw out a somewhat wild guess and estimate the value of the hand clutch at maybe $500, but $200 to $300 is probably more realistic.
