PTO shaft 706 Farmall

Is anyone parting out a 706 Farmall or has a 540 PTO shaft for one of these? I don't think it matters but this is an early '63 model with a serial # in the 1200's if I remember correctly.

Thanks

There's a guy on CL for Ames Iowa selling parts for a 706 from the flywheel back, I seem to remember the shaft still in there.

You are not likely to find just a shaft at a salvage yard. They are going to want to sell the PTO as an assembly.

There are two different shafts used in the dual speed PTO assemblies. Yours most likely was still the shorter one, 381504R3. Later tractors all used the longer shaft number 393111R2.

You can use the longer shaft in place of the original, you may have to extend your hitch back about two inches for some equipment. The later shaft is about 1/3 the price of the early one at the dealers. It is also available in the aftermarket. this site has it for less than $100.

The online parts manual doesn"t list the serial # break on that shaft for the 706. does anyone know what it is?

i"ve got a paper book for the 806 and the break is farmall tractors 23000/23001
international tractors 5700/5701

I have a paper parts book for the 706. Unlike the 806 which lists both shafts, the 706 only lists the shorter shaft so there is no serial number break.

hmm... i actually have 2 parts books for the 806. Revision 9, issued 2/71 shows the break. Revision 3, issued 4/65 only shows the one.

Here's the link that was mentioned earlier regarding a 706 being parted out in Iowa.

The 4/65 book is old enough that the change had not made it to the parts books yet.
