5th gear

I have an M that won't go all the way into 5th gear. When it is engaged it won't stay in gear. Any ideas?
 
5th gear is direct drive. The "gear" is a shaft sliding inside another shaft. The splines are probably worn and/or the shifter ends need to be reconfigured. Very common problem--a lot in the archives you may want to read.
