wet distributor cap

The heavey snow has stopped but now it's heavey rain. The H wouldn't start this morning.Inside of cap was wet. What do you guys use to keep them dry. Thanks Bill

Keep it covered, you can cut a 2L soda bottle in half and strap it to the top of the dist. Or cover in rubber, a old tire tube would do.

Dry it with a blow drier then spray silicon spray lube modestly inside (WD40 is not it!!) Then use a wide "blue" rubber band from celery or? to seal up the crack between the cap and the housing. Spray on the outside will also reduce conductivity there as well. Jim

Bill, I cover all my mags and dist. with a piece of inertube. It keeps water and moisture off real good. I is easy remove with a wire tie around it. oldiron29

I use a barn.

Of course not everyone has a barn, but then you need to either accept that your distributor is gonna get wet from time to time...

(quoted from post at 18:41:26 03/08/11) CRC 556 spray will instantly dry out caps and wires.

Is that the electrical cleaner one?

Sold as Power Lube penetrating oil, but has water dispersal properties. I had a Ford pickup with a 351M motor, distributor is on front of the motor. that truck would get wet and drown out driving in the rain.(old wires and cap I was a broke kid) I pulled into the local parts store one rainy day a she was a spitting and missing. The owner came out with a can in his hand and said open the hood. He sprayed the cap and wires and it cleared up instantly. A light film inside the cap does wonders too. I always have a can around specially for running tractors to the carwash.

had a international 2 ton that drew moisture like a salt block, old mechanic told me to wash it with deisel fuel,..it works
