Super M and disc

Okay so a buddy of mine whose runs all green was telling me that his 2020 deere all stock pulls a 12ft ih disc. Now a 2020 is less hp than my super m and i dont think there is anyway i could pull a 12ft. Could I? im just curious. I pull a 10ft now and i mean I can run in 2 and sometimes 3 with that but i just aint sure

There performance on their respective Nebraska Tractor Tests were very similar. The maximum drawbar pull, tractor weight and hp were all very close. The biggest difference was that the M was ballasted upto 8925#s and the 2020 to 7435#s. 28 pan (9 ft) wheel type disks were the norm in the area where I grew up (heavy clay). I think a 2020 would be straining to pull a 32 pan (10.5 ft) disk in heavy clay.

Sure, if theres no weight on it -- won't go in the ground either. If you want penetration, 7-8 ft is about it.

Probably won't do it in heavy clay soil. We had fairly light to a medium black soil on the farm in NE Iowa and Dad pulled a 11 1/2' with a 460 gas. These tractors are all within 2 DB HP of each other. When I was still @ home we pulled 10' with a 38 HP JD 60.

It's a pretty light disc. Not a tillage disc for sure. I am going to run it in mb ground this spring and see what it does.

There are a lot of variables when it comes to pulling disk. Good 13 foot disk with good blades in plowed ground cutting 6 inshes deep as it should will put Super M in way over its head. If you have Super M hopped up to 80/90 HP and weighted down it will pull it until it shells transmission/differential.

Anything is posible. In south eastern SD i the 70's dad had a Super M with Power Creater pistons. 1200 lbs of weight on each side and pulled a 15 foot IH dick with 9 inch spaced blades.... HONEST. Boy did she beller! He always kept his tractors super tuned and in excellent mechanical shape. That was the key.

P.S. I really liked running this rig at night. I'd drop the disk in the ground at the end of a half-mile long field and pretty soon you would see the orange glow start working its way up the muffler. By the time I was a quarter of the way to the other end, the entire manifold and large, center part of the muffler was glowing bright orange. That coupled with a 6-inch flame coming out the top looked pretty cool to a 12 year-old kid. When I'd get to the end I'd lift the disk and try to turn around quickly so it wouldn't cool off too much!
