silver seat vs red-white seat

What years, 1954-to-1956, did 100's, 200's, etc
come from the factory with a silver seat cover & pad ?

What years came original red-white ?

Silver seats were on all Farmalls of that era (years). Is that correct? for example a 1949 H had a silver seat originally?

The first models of the styled Farmalls dating back to 1939 had a jute padded seat with a dark gray almost black duck cloth (coarse canvas weave) covering. Then in late 1949 the covering changed to the silver color and soon after that the seat gained a layer of foam rubber that really softened them up quite a bit. I never saw or heard of a no-holed stamped steel seat that came on a new tractor that wasn't covered...and I lived through that era...but it's possible I 'spose. The vinyl red and white seats were never a factory issue nor was any other vinyl covering. Those seats may look attractive, but they aren't the best because they don't breathe and on a hot day your butt will sweat pretty bad.

You are right about the vinyl red and white seats. I am threatening to take mine off my Super H and get one of the silver ones. In the summer after a couple hours sitting on that seat, my butt is soaking wet. My dad bought this Super H new back in 1954 and it came with a silver seat that eventually wore out. We then sat on the bare steel. I replaced it with the vinyl seats when I got it (bad move). Roger

(quoted from post at 08:52:27 03/07/11) The seat on a '49 was probably black. Standard equipment had no covering on the stamped metal seat.

Not so sure about that. I think most you see just have the cloth worn off. If you look real close you can see the metal crimp and threads in the crimp from the old cover.

Oh yeah, I guess I screwed up. I was peer pressured into getting a red and white one two weeks ago. I guess I should have waited for a silver one. Can you get a silver one in the original fabric type?

Yeah, most. Jute padded seat probably became standard eventually on most models. Original plain seats can be id'ed by lack of the metal crimp.

Dad bought a new C in '49 with an unpadded silver covered seat and a new "carryover" '54 Super C in Feb or Mar. of '56 with a padded silver seat.
