Super A questions

Went to look at a what I believe is a super A because it has a hydraulic pump mounted up front. The owner saidnthe clutch was bad and wants $250 for it. I will get the serial # later this week to check the year of manufacture. Is that a fair price? Also, what was the hydraulic pump for as I did not see any lift like my super C has.

The pump ran a lift located between the battery box and the engine. This had an arm on each side of the tractor. On the right side to run a mower deck lift, dozer blade, or cultivators. The left side had a pipe that ran to the back to run the lift arm on the back of the tractor. They go for $2500.00 here in Ohio.

I did a little surfing and saw some Super A's that have the hydraulic system similar to my Super C. The "A" that I am looking at has the pump mounted up front and then two rubber hoses that go to a log splitter type valve mounted on the rear left fender. This one does not have the touch control. Also, the right rear tire is mounted on a weighted rim and the left rear is a stamped steel rim. Is this unusual? it does have front wheel weights.

Thanks for the replies and I think I will give the A a home even though it may not be a super A.

The cast wheel on the right is to counterbalance the offset engine. All had it except the first few manufactured. Check the torque tube--if the top is flat with holes to mount the resevoir, it has been removed, if round you likely have an A with a Super A engine block that accepts the hyd pump.
