Just bought a ih tractor and dont no what model it is. It's a wide front ,4 cylinder gas,4 speed, and the exhaust comes out the bottom along the floor board. The serial # is 2313JDD from what i can tell. Just wondering what model and year the tractor was. Thanks brad

Well, just about every model IH made prior to 1963 had a serial number of 2313J somewhere along the line...

4 cylinder eliminates the 460 and 560.

So, it could be an A, B, C, H, M, Super H, Super M, Super MTA, 100, 200, 300, 400, 130, 230, 330, 350, 450, 140, 240, 340, W4, W6, W9, Super W4, Super W6, 300U, 350U...

Are you starting to get the idea?

The information you gave simply isn't enough to identify the tractor. Without at least a picture, there is nothing we can do for you.

The 4 speed eliminates the big tractrs in that series to a large degree, but a picture would be best. Looking at the images in the tractor gallery and assessing the similarity will narrow it down. Jim

Most likely a 240 Utility. Would have a 4-speed with a C-123 4cyl motor. The exhaust routed underneath/alongside the left side of the tractor was an option. Does it have a 2 or 3 pt. hitch?

also a lot of models have the model of tractor stamped right in the serial # plate. also could be prefex letters at start of serial # which helps narrowing it to a paticular model. even if you gave a better description, such as a white grill helps a lot. then this would put it in the 50 series utility which can have exhaust running out under the floor boards, but so can the 00 series also. do you climb on from the side or rear? what size tires are on it? same as going to the doctor and just saying "i am sick" . he has no idea where to start looking either. but a pic is still the best deal.

Exhaust routed underneath makes it sound like a Utility tractor, and not a letter series tractor, but you never know what some hillbillies could have done. Does it look like any of the following?

Look in the photos to your left. Could be a 240U/424/444 and several others. It is not a member of the letter series.

It looks more like the 240 utility, the grill is different ,my grill is all one flat screen with the IH symbol. the tractor used to be industial yellow and someone repainted over it. the air cleaner is more up near the generator, the steering shaft runs along the tractor, and on the side of the hood there are holes were the badges used to be. will try to get a pic of it on here sometime this weekend. Thanks for all your help. Brad

"...used to be industrial yellow." "...steering runs along the tractor." The original color, the steering, etc. that you describe sound like it could be a 2404 Industrial. There are quite a few (for comparison purposes) in the "Images" section of google.com

"...grille is all one flat screen..." IH industrials were available with a heavy gauge steel screen grille full of round holes for the air to flow through. However, most of those I've seen didn't have that neat option, but rather, just the light duty sheet metal grille like the ag tractors had.
