Screwed up...Disassembling a Char-lynn TG

Much in need of help......

Lost my scribe marks AFTER I dissassmbled my TG. Don't ask....but now I have a question!

I have only taken apart the power end. Is all lost or do you have a tip to put it back together and it work? Will I only know after it is installed and tested the first time on the tractor? I am so mad at myself!

Anything would be appreciated...even if you are laughing when you type it.

If you lost then they must not have amounted to much. I Know. I've done it to. I don't know which one you have but if you had enabled your Email I would have emailed a diagram I have to you. I will try to attach it here and see if it works. For the most part if you look at the bolt holes and the fluid passages and line everything up with the ports you should be ok. Hold on I just found a link to am more recent catalog. This is Eaton's website. They own and produce the Char Lynn motors and all now. Hope it helps. LarryT

I am laughing. Because you are now asking for advice on what to do because you didn't follow the advice you asked for and received earlier. Clear?
Did you find the square seals or use O rings?
If you have the old seals they may help you assemble the unit by looking at the pinch/wear marks on them.

Gordo,

I did follow the advice and manual...just made a mistake of which I am learning and paying for.....don't need you to be so negative.......Clear?

Not too unusual to loose marks, looks good when you make them, but not so good after you get her all apart and cleaned up. One other thing to look out for, I don't know how far you disassembled but that shaft has to be oriented properly in g-rotor. Just to be safe, when you start it up first time, don't have your hand inside the steering wheel in case you got it wrong as it will bang you pretty good.

From what I read there are only two ways to put them on. One is right and the other is 180. You have a 50/50 shot without looking for clues that might help you out.

Well I got it back together.....we'll see how it goes when I try it for first time. Good lesson for me and I am just a hobbiest with mechanical ability. I have torn down and restored several cars and this is my first tractor. As many of you know from your love of things mechanical, the feeling when you finally solve a problem and add to the knowledge bank makes the angst and tears all worth it.

Thanks for adding to my sense of community, which is a big part of this hobby. And Gord, I try to imagine "how" you were saying what you did, and I am sure it would have ending with a knowing smile.

Thanks to all!

For sure. If I was jacked I wouldn't have sent you more info. Hope you got it going.
My SMTA came with the Charlyn ps, pump above the governor. It looked so ragged I took it all off, piled it up took some pictures and was ready to sell it on Ebay. A year later when I got the tractor done, and used it to rake some hay, I said to myself, "Self, you gatta have that power steering". SO I did the pump, and the TG, got the swivel coupler, and man is that nice.
