Go to church with a guy who stored his dads 1948 cub in a shed and covered it with a tarp about 25 years ago. Been trying to buy it for 10 yrs now and he finally has decided to sell it to me. I got a close up look yesterday for the first time. I was shocked and how good the original paint and decals still are. Way above average. Not faded at all. Still has the orginal front tires with good tread. It has a full set of cultivators mounted on it. Don't know if it is stuck or not. If if is what would be a good value. If not stuck but needs carb rebuild, fluids changed, what about value then? I was thinking about $800.00 if stuck and $1200.00 if we getting running. The back tires are bad and I am not sure about the wiring. Of course he said it ran great when parked, but that has been along time ago. I didn't see any cracks breaks or welds anywhere. Thanks

I'd say you're in a fair range there..

I bought one a little after Christmas.. Started and loaded itself on the trailer (but needed a jump.. battery was shot) Has a nice looking woods 60" belly mower. Hood is beat up, so is grille, not charging, front tires are pretty iffy (but holding air) and rears are mismatched and weather checked, but decent tread, paint is bad.. I gave $1,000 for it.. Probably a little high in my case, but I'm happy with it so far.. It's just what I wanted

I invested in a new sediment bowl, carburetor, fuel lines, oil and filter, plugs, wires, cap, points, rotor, and battery so far. Gonna use it to mow the grass and slowly fix it up as I go along.

I hear ya can buy em all fixed up nice for around $2500.. But I'm young, and I get a lot more pride buying something needing help and fixing it up myself. I'm not in it for a return on investment either..

I would pay that price anyday, Here in the North-East they go for quite a bit more.
They are to small for much work but a great small garden or mower tractor.

Yes, I enjoy fixing them up too! Sure is getting expensive though. However, I was told long ago to never put a price on your hobby. I hope to just get this one running because the original paint and decals are in unbelievably good shape. As it's said, they are only original once.

'48 is about the peak year of production in numbers term so there's a bunch out there. Don't get enthralled with paint and decals, it's not a rare Cub by any means. That being said, you may luck out by making sure the tank is clean, pouring in a bit of fresh gas and firing it up (after priming the oil pump first !!) I'd take a crank and see if it's free for starters. I'd also test the radiator and see if the anti freeze afforded enough protection in your area to prevent cracking the block. Probably mice have nested in the air cleaner or in the torque tube - who knows. I'd never pay more than 1200 given the variables involved. Maybe try to find a "Cub guy" in your area who could help you assess condition/value. Good luck - keep us informed. Craig

Well, if it is in the condition you state, AND it is not stuck and no block cracks, here in western PA you wouldn't touch it for under $1500.

Your price range sounds fair, but the seller may have other thoughts.......

There are Cub guys out there that would go banana's over an "original" condition Cub.

I think that sounds like some fair prices. I know cubs have their location prices in different areas too. If you are happy, and the seller is happy, then great. Steve 49, 50 demo, 52, 57 and 72 cub, 63, 57, 68, 154 lo boy.
