The original subject was "1939 Farmall M with Detroit diesel at auction".

Here is some paper work I sold on ebay a few months ago. (The three pieces of literature brought $76.35!) The paperwork is right from GM DIESEL. Dated 6-56 (June 1956). It states that "INSTALLATION OF MODEL 2055 GM DIESELS HAVE BEEN MADE IN FARMALL M TRACTORS BY DISTRIBUTORS". So you can tell that cheating small puncture wound that's been pulling that worthless M to get Funked!https://photos.yesterdaystractors.com/gallery/uptest/a32104.jpg[/url]

I enjoyed reading the information. Is this retrofit still available? What would be the horse power for the 2055 model? Thank you.

Bob

Basic Model 2055 2-71 Diesel w/60 CU MM Injectors
Rated brake horsepower basic engine @ 2,000 RPM= 65 HP

Rated brake horsepower with fan & generator:
Rated power with 70 CU MM Injectors @ 2,000 RPM= 56 HP
Rated power with 60 CU MM Injectors @ 1,800 RPM= 46 HP
Continuous brake horsepower @ 1,800 RPM= 40 HP

While the 2030C & 2031 2-71 Models w/fan & gen. were:
Rated power with 70 CU MM Injectors @ 2,000 RPM= 60 HP
Rated power with 60 CU MM Injectors @ 1,800 RPM= 49 HP
Continuous brake horsepower @ 1,800 RPM= 44 HP

This literature was dated 3-17-55 and 6-56 so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no it's probably still not available. I could be wrong but who really cares anyways?

In a sense they were "homemade" jobs. You bought the engine and you received a few other items and you had a bunch of fabrication work and component acquisition to do yourself.

The engine (2055) has a unique bellhousing which is cast as one piece and unique. The easiest way to tell a home made (non authentic "kit") version is to look in this area and see if the bellhousing has a plate welded to it or not.
