Fast hitch swaps

I am replaceing some parts on a fasthitch on my 230. I am getting some of the parts from a salvage 240. Did the 240 use the small points like the 230, or large points. I was also wondering if the receiver sockets for large points from a different tractor say a 300 or 340 might swap.

240 used the small F-H points. Not sure if you can swap the small for the large from a 340.

300 and 400 sockets are welded on. The later sockets are fastened with two pins. If they won't interchange with the 230, they could be modified. There are a couple of 240 sockets on eBay right now. There were a couple of 450 sockets last week that didn't sell. I probably should have bought them but the shipping was too high.

If the ends of the 230 wishbone (bail) have an upsweep, the pinned sockets will probably fit without modification. All the large pinned sockets for the fast hitch, till the end of production, have the same two holes. I am guessing the 230 was no different.

According to my 230 and 240 TC-53B Parts Catalog the hitch receivers are different between these two models. The 230 uses part nos. 522931R11 (L/H) & 522932R11 (R/H) sockets. The 240 uses part nos. 525595R11 (L/H) & 525596R11 (R/H) sockets. I believe the 240 also uses the large points while the 230 uses the small points. I also see this is contrary to what "IH fan" noted in their post earlier so one of us is wrong so you need to check further. I have purchased a Farmall 240 this winter but it is weathered in up north in the snow and haven't gotten it home yet so can't verify for you. I am told by a fast hitch expert friend who has one that the 240 is indeed a large point tractor as he cautioned me that I wouldn't be able to use the small point implements I have without those 1/2" adapter plates. The Parts Catalog does list a different part no. for the drawbars as well between a 230 and 240 so there is something different, Hal.

Thanks for the replies. I saw the sockets on E-Bay and was considering them but when I compared part numbers on line the 240 and the 230 were the same. I couldn"t tell if the points he was selling were the large or small but they looked like they might be large. Would like a set of large sockets if they fit the holes on the 230 bail. Maybe I will run across a set I can measure.

I went out on the CaseIH on-line catalog and think I can explain where you were lead wrong. The Parts Catalog for the Farmall 200, 230 and 240 and International 240 tractor are all in the same catalog which you are looking at on line. The print copy has better titles on the pages then what you see on line. You were looking at page or section 321 which is the same page no. in the print catalog. Page 321 is actually the page for the Farmall 230 if you look at the title in the center in Red. Go to page or section 330 and you will see the fast hitch configuration for the Farmall and International 240 tractors and the title clearly states so in the Red title. It is very confusing and thought I would point that out to you as you can certainly get confused when dealing with several models within the same catalog. I don't know if you noticed or not but the yoke or bails are different for each model between the model 230 and 240 as well. Hope this helps in any future searches you will need to make, Hal.
P.S. If you have a lot of restoration work to do on your 230 you might find a print copy better suited for cross references between models.
