live hydraulic question

I have removed a front end loader which was driven off of a live hydraulics in the picture. I do not want to damage the pump. Is there any thing I should do to protect the pump when running dry? The FEL was the resevoir.

Running it dry will hurt it, but it would be simple to rig up a small tank to keep it pumping fluid. A simple loop of pipe with a cap to fill with fluid would probably keep that pump running just fine

Looks like it wouldn't be much work to just remove the pump if running without hydraulics hooked up is desired.

Definitely don't run it dry. You will ruin it, and you won't be able to get parts.

The tractor looks like an H or M. Does it still have the belly pump? You can hook it up to that without affecting the belly pump hydraulics:

Hook the intake from the live pump to the drain on the belly pump.
Hook the output from the live pump to the fill pipe on the belly pump.

i like the look of the distributor drive more than the stock IH, i think. Maybe because it is different?
