1937 Farmall F-12 Engine Oil Capacity

We just pulled two 1937 Farmall F-12 from the shed. One of which my uncle had running 25 years ago. We have old manuals, but they do not indicate the fluid capacities for these tractors. I just want to know how much oil and coolant is needed. Also one tractor has a raised steering wheel and a post type seat mount with a spring at the bottom. The other has a lower steering wheel with a sprung steel mount for the seat. What are the differences in the two tractors? Both are 1937 F-12's.

I also have a 1937 Farmall F12. I don't know what the fluid capacities are but I can tell you about the steering wheels and the seats. The steering wheel shaft on the F12 is pretty much parallel to the ground. If you have one that is raised at the drivers end I would say it has either been retrofitted with an F14 steering column or it is indeed an F14. The seat support on an F12 is a single post with a coil spring wrapped around it. If you have a flat curved spring steel seat support it probably was retro from another tractor.

Thanks for the info. That makes me wonder. I was told they are both F-12's. Is the steering modification a common change?

Brad, Under the gas tank you should have a serial # that will tell the date and what you have. Please post serial #'s thanks oldiron29

Brad, there was an IHC conversion kit to "upgrade" an existing F-12 to some of the F-14 features. As Oldiron has stated, serial numbers are key to determine what you have.

Thanks, I will pull the Serial Numbers tommorow and post them. I have attached a picture of the two tractors. They are not in bad shape, been shedded the last 25 years.

Engine oil...5 1/2 qts.
Coolant...3 1/2 gal.
Transmission...16 qts.

Here are some pictures of my current project. 1937 F-12 with a complete F-14 conversion....steering shaft, raised seat, longer brake levers, F-14 head, crankcase breather on tappet cover, F-14 govenor.

From the photos, it appears that we have the same tractor with the F-14 conversion. The Serial# is FS100515, which is the one with the F-14 conversion. The other tractor we have has Serial #FS86379. This tractor has all steel wheels and an F-12 steering column. Thanks for the information.
