Behlen Power steering

I have a problem with my M Farmall, it has a Behlen p.s. unit and the steering turns right and "locks" in that position as soon as I start the tractor. If anyone is familiar, please advise. Johnny

I'm not familiar with Behlen PS. However ANY power steering that runs to one side then locks says the steering unit's internal control valve is stuck.

Likely causes are a busted control valve centering spring or a bit of debris caught in a valve port.

Bob, thanks for your reply!
We took it apart, and didn't see anything that looked bad. I dunno the first thing about these units, as this is the first one I've ever seen. Johnny

I assume it works similar to the CharLynn unit in that the first few degrees of moving the steering wheel, or input shaft to the unit, is actually operating a valve. That valve is stuck in the right position, or not centering for some reason. If you hold the steering wheel to the left, does it still try to go to the right?

Nope! Only to the right. I would like to purchase rebuild kit, but don't know where to find one!! Thanks for the response, Johnny

Hey John, I found the problem with my 400's power steering! It had a broken centering spring that was causing all the pressure to stay on the right side of the valve. Now my problem is finding a replacement spring.
