hey all I just got a f-20 with no wter pump stock orig tractor. After running under load for a time the top tank is hot the bottom is coold ice cold ..I dropped a brazing rod through the top and all the rad tubes seem clean. is there a thermostat hidden somewhere?? i'm sure I'm going to prbley be replacing the head gasket it's leaking in the front corner. Also there is a 3/8th pipethread hole in the rear of block on the corner down by bell housing same side as mag.. thought it would be a block drain but no water comes out.. may need manual thanks in advance for any advice

Good news, your thermosiphion cooling system is working perfectly. Hot water from the block enters on the top, gets cooled by the fan and exits the bottom. no pumps or t stats just physics. To drain the block you can take the lower elbow off the side of the block, but it will all drain out the bottom of the radiator.

The pipe plug hole is where the crankcase ventilation tube should be.

Heres one on a F30

Tug, The 3/8 hole in block should be a breather tube for block. You may have a blockage on lower elbow or in block. I would pull lower hose and make sure it is cleaned out. use a coat hanger to pull out debris. Also could put water in top elbow and flush it out. The rad will get hot. oldiron29

I have a f-12 does the same thing, never overheated on me yet its just the way those old thermosiphion systems work. keep a eye on the temp gauge if your unsure if its working take it out and dip it in very hot water.
