need advice on 282 D head bolt

I just got a running 706 with a 282.It blew a head gasket last year. The old man I got it from said that a rear head bolt was kinda stripped and wouldnt tighten down right.Anybody else had one like that you might have fixed? Thanks in advance

You may have to get a stud from John Deere that has interferance threads. Clean out the hole & see if there are still good threads in the bottom. Good luck.

I have a SMTA with a similiar problem. I've had a couple of old IH mechanics recomend using a heli-coil. I'm hoping to get to it yet this winter.

(quoted from post at 20:31:04 02/21/11) What in the world are interferance threads?

Well, "interference" is misspelled, so it won't show up in a search.

Interference fit is a machining term where basically, the pin is slightly larger than the hole, so you have to pound it in.

In terms of a thread, it's a thread that's slightly oversize for the hole.

One question: Is the stud spinning in the block, or the nut spinning on the stud? If the former, you will have to heli-coil the block. If the latter, you simply need to replace the stud.

Thanks for the explanation.Id really rather keep the 282 running as long as possible.I thought of Heli Coil too.Wondered if it'd hold up to that kind of torque on the bolt.Ive never used one myself before. Thanks Guys

I have a friend that use to pull a 12000# SS pulling tractor that used heli-coils in the block. If they can hold up under those conditions they'll work fine in your situation
