generator belt

farmall h--the set screw on the pulley system is really messed up. looks like someone tried to drill it out at one point, anyway i cant get whats left of it out. can i simply unbolt the water pump and get the belt on that way?

If you do take the water pump loose I would take it off completely and then get your screw out. Makes it easyer next time. And to answer your generator ? from sat... I do have the field wire from the gen to the reg field to field.

I have drilled 2 of them out. I would rather do that than remove the pump. Take your time. Tap the threads if you have to.
After you get it out and repaired, install a hex head bolt instead of a slotted screw. It makes life easier the next time you need to adjust the belt.

Dell

I am with Dell, drill it out and re-tap it. Good news is that you can do this. Bad news is, if the set screw is a hardened one (like on the crank pulley on a C-113 engine), you will need a carbide tip to drill it out. I have a complete set of Cobalt left hand drills, and they wouldn't touch the broken set screw on the crank pulley. I used a 5/16 tile drill to get it out.

However, not sure if all the set screws were hardened or not. Try a regular drill first, and go from there.
