help removing steering wheel

I need to get the steering wheel off a 966 so I can remove the steering hand pump and it's being a little stubborn. Any tricks to getting it off? Thanks.

I just struggled with the one on my 340, and the only thing that worked was a three jaw puller. I put the puller on, cranked it down and smacked it with a hammer. The wheel poped right off.

Are the bolt holes still in good shape,if so, best puller I ever had was a heavy piece of metal, like 5/8th inch thick, just long enough to fit in depression of wheel. Drill two holes to match holes in steering wheel. Thread bolts into steering wheel until they bottom out, than gauge how many washers it takes to give you just about one thickness of washer of tension. Then reinstall both bolts, don't over tighten so as to strip threads but tighten them down good, give her a rap right in center over shaft with hammer and punch. Lots of penetrating oil, and if and when it comes loose you may have to remove bolts and add more washers. Nut on end of shaft to protect threads also.

some of these steering wheels are are real challange!!! i have had to cut them off before, and others have come off after attaching a puller and leaving it under pressure for a few days while soaking it and striking the shaft(with the nut on). one i used a air chisel and used it on the back side and it literally fell off!!!!!!!!!!

The only way I could get mine off was to use a bearing splitter underneath the wheel and crank it off with a gear puller or bolts.
