Putting an M motor in a W6

Bought a W6 for my girlfriend, no motor. No problem, we just happen to be parting out an M. What things are specific to the W6? We don't have the tractor here yet, but looking over some pictures I've noticed the governor arm is different, rear motor mount and starter are also different. How does the front engine mount go on?

The front engine mount is specific to the W, I, and O series. It is part of the front engine cover. The engine from an M will work just fine, but you do need the front engine cover for the W6.

YEs, the front cover is specific to the standards as well as the gov. linkage. (Thanks for that reminder, I keep forgetting that) The rear mount is also different. The starter is the same on the regualr M and regular W6. (At least all of them Ive seen) In fact, a starter from an H should work fine too. I have one of the starter off of my M on my I4, and the one that was on my I4 on my M right now.

If I remember correct the starter housing on a W6 is the same for gas and diesel. M gas starter drive end won't have the correct gear mesh or bolt holes.

I noticed the W6 has a 3 bolt starter flange and I think the M we have has a 2 bolt. Will a super M have a 3 bolt flange?

I know my MD has a 3 bolt, not sure if it is the same size etc. Not sure what my SMTA has, but I think it is 3 bolt. Check the CNH website parts for more info.
