Serial number plate removal

Whats the best way to get rivits out without damaging plate. I broke a clutch housing and replacing with a salavage unit and want to keep correct plate. Thanks

A sharp cold chisel.or-centerpunch the rivet head and drill out the rivets

I like to do it using several putty knives. You start with the thinnest possible one you can find. File a notch in it to clear the rivet about 3/8" deep. Run it in to the end of the notch. Then run subsequent thicker putty knives between your notched putty knife and the tractor to work the rivets out. Once you got it out far enough you can get ahold of the rivet and pull it out when you remove the putty knives.
