Need advice on mower for Farmall 340

Hello. I"m looking for implements for an IH 340 tractor that I bought at auction. I have about 6 acres of tillable land that I would like to turn into pasture. When I bought the IH 340, I thought it would be a simple task to find a sickle mower that would fit on that draw bar so that I could cut hay. I"m finding that it is more difficult than expected. Do you have any idea on types of mowers that I could use with that tractor? Next will be a rake and baler.

A 340 Farmall is a tall tractor "row crop" a International (or IH) tractor is a utility style Low to the ground and smaller tires wide front end.
Both had (I think three Draw bar options:
A fast hitch (two prongs on the implement and two sockets on the tractor)
A three point hitch (I think) was offered on the last few years of production.
and either could be ordered with a standard fixed loop hitch with a swinging drawbar.

Stuart; you would be happy if you could find a balanced-head sickle mower. The have a belt instead of wood pitman arm powering the sickle. This feature allows you to mow above and below horizontal - great for ditch mowing and even trimming tree branches that encroach on fields over the years. Finding one isn't a 'simple task'.

IH made a sickle mower that bolts/clamps onto the drawbar. A pitman arm fast-hitch mower will be more common to find, but not just any fast-hitch mower is compatible to the tractor...hhmm, how would I know this? Good luck w/your search.

Search the photo/classified ads on this site, post a FREE want ad here. ebay has them occasionally, craigs list, also local papers as the auction season will be picking up soon. Red Power Roundup, this summer in Minnesnowta will have an auction...I think.

Thanks, Al. I"ll look through the ads as you suggest. My IH 340 utility tractor only has a simple drawbar, no fast-hitch or 3-pt.

Sorry, Jim. My confusion since the tractor has both Farmall & IH emblems on it. I have a 1959 IH 340 gas utility tractor with a swinging drawbar.

Now I'm confused... if it has [b:50442772af]Farmall[/b:50442772af] emblems on it and it's a Utility, someone has changed some sheetmetal or something.
