Non running cub

I recently purchased a non running cub,after pulling the carb and gas tank, I thought I knew why it would not run, The carb and settle bulb were full of varnish, cleand tank,bulb, and carb, put back together. Now it will start and run somewhat. If you spray starting fluid in the breather tube it runs fine,Gas is getting to the carb..Whats my next move......Thanks

Did you rebuild the carb ? Soak it over night in carb cleaner and clean out interior passages ?? Float set correctly ? That is an easy carb to rebuild with a good kit !

There is a possibility that the carb needs more cleaning. (or) Was fuel able to be drained out of the carb at a rate approaching 3/16" stream? if not it is still plugged up somewhere in the delivery system. There is a screen at the carb inlet that is often overlooked.
Is the intake manifold leaking air at the engine flange or the carb flange, either will be a vacuum leak and cause lean running.
