Just discovered a great reference - may be old news to some.

I just bought the Servicemans guide to Farmall A

I found it to be a fantastic reference for how these tractors came from the factory and what options were available. Some may already know this, but for those who don't, you should get one.......

Who published it, and where can you find one? I have had problems finding good manuals for the letter series. I definitely have not liked what I have seen of I&T.

There are some of these on eBay. IHC published this originally. There are originals and repro's out there.

Our club was donated old Alfred State college service manuals from their ag program. Alot of the common tractor manuals were removed before donation. We have a ton of IH, JD, Ford, Allis and Case manuals for reference in their original dealer service binders. We do have alot of the less popular tractors, implements, running gears and even JD snowmobiles. THE ONES YOU CAN NOT FIND ON EBAY

Mine is an original printed in 1939. I see reprints out there around $12. The interesting thing about this manual, is that is really calls out all the specs on the tractor. Does not have much if anything on how to do things, but it sure does cover the specifications and options. Like the adjustable front axel was an option. I have NEVER seen a non-adjustable axel on an A. But then again, this was printed in 1939 when they first came out.

Like I said, it is a treasure trove of specifications, options (with part numbers), and over all diagrams of the A. I have found these for the H and the M, and I will be buying both..........

They are JUNK! I can't believe anybody would have something good to say about them. "disassebly procedure will be apparent" or "reassemble in reverse order" These two statesments drive me nuts! Why did I buy the manual!!! Their clutch R&R method was a joke.

As Tom said, there great for specifications. I do not disagree
that disassembly and re-assembly is vague, but you have to
rember that it was aimed a serviceman. Someone who
worked on IHs for a living, day in day out, no need to be
detailed. The overal tractor guide is vague, but IH had
serviceman guide books for the components of the tractor too
that are detailed.

They barely even have torque specs for most things. I will give them a nod for specs on engine components.

You would think if they were made for IH mechanics they would at least have helpful tips or cheater tips. Like how to get at the bull pinion carrier assembly through the PTO.

ok, maybe some confusion here, or maybe I am the once confused.

I believe that sflem849 is talking about the I&T manuals.

I believe that everyone else is talking about the Serviceman's guide to Farmall A that I posted.

I went back through the manual again last night, and I stand by my comments. A great reference on orginal specifications, schematics, and options. It is really not designed to be a "how to"......

The first sentence of the manual starts out, "International Harvester Corporation has introduced a new tractor for 1939, the Farmall A."

That's right. I was referring to the I&T. See the first post above.

The servicemans guides are very good. Don't forget, they aren't from 1939 anymore. They have been updated several times since then.
