Another Char-Lynn power steering question!

When you put PS on an M/MD, did they replace the thing that holds the gauges? The one on my MD looks extra heavy and I think that is causing throttle geometry problems.

The PS kit for my Super M gas included a modified gage bracket (Charlynn part #121) to replace the stock bracket.

The instructions don't mention whether the same bracket is used for the MD/SMD.

I would guess they are because they use the same steering components. There is a little twist where the throttle comes through, but I don't think that would matter for the gauge bracket.
Did it look about twice as thick? Maybe a hair less than twice as thick?

Yeah - the Charlynn bracket is considerably heavier since it must resist the considerable reaction torque generated by the steering motor.

I recall having to modify (shorten) the gage retaining clamps when reinstalling the gages on account of the thicker bracket.

I think I am going to mill about .150" off my throttle thingy to put it in the right position. The throttle rod has been hitting the last injector for 50 years and I think it is time to do something about it. It is only compounded with all the slop in the throttle. I'll go look for a picture.

I don't have a picture that I took. I put a request out incase any of the other MD guys have one.

Old time char lynn power steering bracket for a MD didn't mount the gauges in it. Used a U shaped bracket that mounted the T.G. around 3 inches ahead of the gauges. Can't get to a picture today.

Probably no need, my TG is mounted to the gauge plate. The TG is flush with the gauge plate right. It mounts just where a third gauge would.

The most important part of the steering shaft setup is the special "wobbly" connector between the out shaft of the TG and the steering shaft. I has a little fore and aft play, and also a tad of side to side play. Removes any binding of the shaft and better meshing of the two steering gears.
I found mine on Ebay, brand new, painted green, advertised for a JD B? Believe it or don't I got it cheap because I guess not many folks put PS on a JDB
