The right color wire or all black.

I am ready to rewire my 340 and I am having trouble making up my mind. Should I spend the money on the correct color's, all eleven of them or just do it black. I am a maintenance eletrician so I have the skills and will get quality material, I just don't know what to do about the color. The longest conductor on that thing is only about four feet so tracing any of them should never be a problem.

Honestly I would just do all black, unless you already have another color and don't mind. I have a good sized box of misc. wire. I used to work at a job where I had access to misc. short pieces being scrapped, and save some longer pieces. I know I used a piece of blue 16 ga. on my C a couple years back. Kind of tacky looking but works just fine.

Don't know about the hundred series, but on the letter series they used different colors and then painted over them so it didn't matter!

I bought a harness from Steiners; the cover looked like a Zebra, literally. I put it in black plastic conduit.

Personally, I prefer using different colored wires. Less chance of crossing wires & easier to trace, especially if they're in a loom, even for short distances.

I know the cloth covered harnesses from Agri Services are all the same color wire. All that yellowish "canvas" color.

So, it wouldn't be unheard of.

You might want to consider "grouping" by wire colors. Ex: any wires pertaining to "lights" be of one color...any wires pertaining to "charging/generator/alternator" be of another color...etc.

Whatever you do, you'll do well to make your own wiring diagram when finished.

Way back in the foggy corner of my mind, I recall seeing "numbers" that could be put on wires kinda/sorta like tape....#1's...#2's...#6's...etc.

Take your time while doing wiring...it's really not all that difficult.

"Michael D"; you being a maintenance electrician should already know the answer.

soybeanjoe, I agree, those wires are harder to 'trace' when they are condomized...but that is me, I likes 'em original.

Up the road a few miles is an 'old-fashioned hardware store, complete with two inch wide wooden flooring that squeaks and creaks when walked on. Down in the basement they have rolls of colored wire that they happily cut in any length!

If it were my tractor I would do all black with different color connector covering on certain wires.
But, it is your tractor, if you like "Christmas tree" wires go for it.

That tickled me, but that was not what I was eluding to. I figured being an electrician, he would want to do it correctly thus, going with wire jacketed in colors.
