856 steering,TA, and brake problems

I have an 856 international with hydraulic problems. The old tractor runs great and 3 point lift works fine. When I start tractor power steering,TA and brakes don't work. I can let it run for awhile and they start workig most of the time. I don't know if I am right but acts to me like a valve may be sticking.Wondering if there is something I can try before taking valve body apart for inpection. I have heard adding some diesel fuel to oil will clean valves but have not tried it yet. Just open for any suggestions at this point.

This is a common problem for tractors where it has been many years since they were split between the center section and the rear frame. there is an O-ring seal between those two housings to connect the suction side of the MCV pump. As the o-rings ages it becomes less effective at sealing between the two housings. Since the seal is above the oil level air enters on the suction side of the pump. When you start the tractor this air is drawn into the MCV pump which is not very good at pumping air.

The short term solution is to add about five to seven gallons of oil above the full mark on the stick. That puts the oil level above the seal so air will no longer enter the MCV pump. The only downside is that when you change hydraulic filters you will also drain out some of this extra oil.

Thanks for the advice. I put 5 gallons of oil in this afternoon and in acouple of minutes everything worked like it was supposed to. What would be the best long term fix that I will eventually have to do. Thanks again I may have to pick your knowledge again sometime.
