Farmall 460 and carb

I am still trying to get my tractor started but without any luck. I have good spark and the tractor turns over fine but when I stop turning it over, fuel runs out of carb by choke. Iam trying to start this without the breather attached right now and about a teaspoon or so runs out.

I had the same problem with my Super H and I finally had the carb professionaly redone. Since then I have had no problems. What I think is problem is that either the float is sticking and allowing fuel to run which allows the fuel bowl to fill up and not shut off the amount of fuel in bowl. Just my 2 cents.

best785; maybe you have already checked, but do you have gas or is there water in the tank? Also, the plug gap spec is .023" again, maybe you have done this; maybe the discussion board could use a refresher of your problems from an earlier post. As to the gas running issue, others state a float problem. Click the link as I had posted three scans related to the carburetor from the IH Preventative Maintenance Manual. I think my Farmall 460 needs new plug wires and I need to check the carb for screw adjustments. Farm~Fleet had a gallon size carburetor cleaner kit w/self-contained wash bucket/strainer that I haven"t yet used on stand-by sitting on the garage floor. If needed, disassemble carb, soak, reassemble and go for a tractor ride!! Then I should see why the tack/hour meter isn"t functioning and adjust to an idle speed per the manual. I hope this helps. Good luck and post back your results so other may learn.

If you have had the choke full on when the gas runs out, that is not too unusual. The purpose of the choke is to draw gas out of the carburetor. If it runs out without full choke then either the float level is too high or there is a leak where the fuel nozzle seats in the bowl.

had the same problem one time. look for a pin hole in the float. take it out shake it and you might hear gas in the float. If its been dry for a while it might have leaked back out. So get some hot water and put the float down all the way in the water and see if you get any little bubbles. If so you need a new float.
