Farmall M pulley

Hi
I am looking for a belt pulley for my Farmall M. I am wondering if these pulleys are interchangable from an H to an M or if the bolt pattern is diffrent between the two. Thanks for the help

The bolt patterns are the same on all of them. There are several different diameters in both steel and paper. Different tractors have different speeds on the pulley output shaft. The different sizes were used so you could obtain the feet per minute belt speed that was needed for any particular use.

The bolt pattern is the same and the various pully diameters will readily interchange from one tractor model to another. The diameter chosen is in relation to the desired belt speed (feet per minute). The M usually used a larger diameter pulley than the H, because the M had the horsepower needed to power the driven machine at the faster speed.

The M needs a larger pulley because the pulley shaft runs slower than the H.

The high idle speed of the belt pulley is 1121 RPM for the H and 4 series tractors. The M and 6 series tractors run between 980 and 998 RPM high idle. The 9 series tractors run at 778 for gas and 771 for diesel high idle. Pulley size has to be different to obtain close to the feet per minute on the belt on the various models.

The size of the pulleys had nothing to do with HP. The size was important depending on what the belt was used for. Many threshingmachines had large pulleys so say you hooked an M to it you needed a large pulley so you could run the machine at its desired rpms. Seen this happen with an F-20 vs an M. The f-20 ran the machine better than the M. Hammer mils would present the same problems like silage blowers and cutters. Thats why they made different sizes.
