Identify this old tractor

Old family photo from area around Giddings, Texas. I believe it is a Farmall A, with exhaust lift. Can you confirm and identify a year, or any other info that can be determined from the photo? Did the exhaust lift just work on the front cultivators, or did it lift any rear mounted equipment?
thanks

You are correct. It is a Farmall A with the exhaust, or pneumatic lift. The pneumatic lift worked for rear mounted implements as well as front mounted.

Nice pic! If it is clear enough you should get it made into a larger print and frame it for your wall. Likely a big moment for the family when that was delivered. I have a similar picture of my grandparents with their model T Ford pickup with his business name on the side. Hangs in my office and generates a lot of conversation. You have a really nice pic there of the A with lift attachment!

The cycl was mounted all over the tractor depending on which attachment was used. Was even mounted on the sickle mower. I use the system on several implements.

The 'A' was built from 1939-1947. Hard to tell from pic, but it does have lights, so possible it was mid to late model tractor.

See the tin can on the exhaust pipe? Those flapping lids came out quite a while ago, but maybe not back when the A was around. Farmers who didn't have a lot of money probably wouldn't spring for that contraption, anyway. All you had to do was reach up and put on a tin can, which would fly away nicely when you started the motor.

The pneumatic lift on the Farmall A did not have a very good reputation, as I remember. I think the exhaust fumes corroded the cylinder. It was also reputed to be slow. With the one-row equipment that came with the A, a hand-lift probably wasn't all that difficult to manage. Time saved? not much. We had a hydraulic lift on our F-12 for the cultivators. I would guess it would save about 30 seconds at the end of the row. It DID reduce the effort a bit.
