Value of Farmall 400 ?

I have a friend that's looking to sell his 400 but he doesn't know a fair asking price so I thought who better to ask than the Farmall guys. It is in original condition with nice tin, engine runs good enough but could use a tune up, tires are not the best but all hold air, has power steering and the TA is out. Overall the tractor is in very good condition and would be a easy restore. Thanks for any help
 
1600-1800 sounds like a lot for a tractor with a non working t/a?? Fast hitch?? It would proably sell better if the owner did the tune up piror to sale?? Bud.
 
I think it also has a lot to do with location. Tractor restoration is a pretty big thing here in Iowa and people know it so they want top dollar for their tractors. Persanally I would not pay that, but that is what someone here in Iowa would be asking. I bought 5 tractors last year and an IH 3 bottom plow, only one of which I bought here in Iowa. Everything else was out of state.

The tires are the biggest detriment to value. I wouldn't to pay much more that $1,000 to $1,200 for a 400 in that condition.
 
here in nebraska, about 1100-1300. If he wants good money out of it, put it on a consignment auction. some idiot always runs up the price. Or put a fix the TA, good used tires and a shot of paint and get 2500.
 
Hey, thanks to everyone that replied. We are in WI. My buddy just wants to ask a fair price for the tractor, but does not just want to give it away, most of you must understand that, I am like most, I like to get something as cheap as I can too. But as I said he wants to be fair about it.
